Migration from LINC II / EAE to Java2

The Company

CAESB (Water and Wastewater Company from Brasilia DC, Brazil) is a public company, responsible for water and sewage services in Brasilia DC, Brazil. The company attends more than 1.9 million people with water services (91.61% of the Brasilia DC population), 1.8 million with wastewater services (88% of the Brasilia DC population) and treats 64% of all wastewater collected. 

On later 2001, CAESB decided to migrate their LINCII/LDA/EAE applications, based on UNISYS mainframe to open platform. Then, they contracted software tools and consulting services from XSEED. The result: Customer Attention Center, Inventory Control and Commercial applications are running on JAVA technology with gain of performance and functionality.

Using XMM Methodology (XSEED Migration Methodology) and XSEED set of Migration Tools, XSEED Software partnering with CTIS consultants (www.ctis.com.br ) supported CAESB professionals and together executed one more LINCII / LDA / EAE migration project, with absolute success.

Migration Process

Migration process was done in three months, after that the team has spent two more months in deployment phase. End users were totally satisfied with the migration results. 

After the migration, all applications that used character mode interface, turned to HTML graphical interface. Now, any user can operate CAESB applications on a web browser. The applications’ data were migrated from DMSII database to Microsoft SQL Server and the LINCII / LDA / EAE applications were migrated to JAVA2, adding flexibility, scalability and independence to those applications. 

Furthermore, all the migrated programs (on line and batch) achieved an increase of performance on the new platform.

Results

The final results were end users strongly satisfied and recognition of specialized IT press. CAESB was awarded in 2003, 2004 and 2005 as one of the top 100 Government companies in IT using by Exame INFO Magazine and Information Week Magazine.
